Disney Pin Trading

Aug 20, 2019

Disney Pin trading is an interactive experience where guests can trade official Disney pins with Cast members or even fellow guests. There are a few things you’ll want know before you begin:

1- Pins MUST be authentic Disney parks pins. You can verify this by checking for the following.

  • Official Pins are stick pins with a Mickey shaped pin back. Note: imposters can have Mickey shaped backs.
  • Disney Pin trading logo will appear on the back. The main part of the logo is a Mickey head with a box that says ‘Pin Trading’.
  • Disney pins will have at least one prong to keep the pin from spinning. Larger pins may have two prongs.
  • Check the edges, imposters will usually have rough cut edges.

2- Pins can be traded with any cast member who is visibly wearing pins. Most pin trading cast members will be found at gift shops, gift carts and DVC desks. Employees working with food are not allowed to trade pins for safety reasons. Resort employees can also trade pins. Most resorts have a central pin trading board. Ask the front desk where these are located for each resort. Don’t forget to check Disney Springs for pin trading locations.

3-Pin trading is one for one. If you think you have a fabulous pin that is worth more you won’t be able to get 2 pins for 1. It is one for one.

4- You don’t have to make a trade. Simply ask the cast member to see their pins. They are usually glad to show you…as long as they are not busy helping someone. Cast members must trade for any official Disney pin offered.

5- You can trade up to two pins per cast member.

6- Blind trading: is when a cast member wears some or all of their pins backwards. In order to see those pins the cast member will usually ask you a question or two of Disney related trivia. It adds a little fun and interaction to pin trading. Note: you do not have to trade once the pin is turned around.

7 – Pins should be traded open palm to open palm to keep from poking anyone.

8 – There is no limit to the amount of pins you can trade with another guest but keep in mind that they do NOT have to trade with you. Be respectful when appraoching another guest about pin trading and make sure to leave them with a great big thank you.

For an extra special pin trading experience, visit Animal Kingdom Lodge Monday through Friday to trade with King Pin. He wears several lanyards, a hat and staff covered in pins and a mystery bag of pins. Make sure to verify the time King Pin will be available each day. You can trade 2 pins with him at a time. He is a lot of fun to talk to and knows the background of almost every pin. Be sure to bring your camera for an Instagram worthy picture.
As a side note…authentic Disney pins can often be found at the Disney Character Outlet for a lot less. These can be used as traders to obtain pins you love.
