Smuggler Run Ride Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We ventured back to Star Wars Land this last weekend to experience Smugglers Run.  Though the line looked extra long, the My Disney App stated a wait time of only 70 minutes.  70 minutes for a brand new ride on a weekend??  WOW, we definitley took advantage.

The queue started outside back by Oga’s Cantina.  Here I can see Disney will have to make some changes.  The line for the Canina was running right alongside the line for Smugglers Run.  They did have quite a few cast memebers present to keep people straight but I forsee a more qaupermanent  form a separation will have to be made.

The queue outside is similar to Slinky Dog, they have provided umbrellas along the path but they do little in the way of sun protection.  In the hot summer months, you will definitley want to have a fan or cooling towel and plenty of water.

Smugglers Run

There is a lot to see on your path through the queue.  You can get a good look at the Millenium Falcon.  Everything looks real, right down the dirt, dings and noises.  You will hear ships flying overhead, it sounds so real you’ll find yourself looking up to see.

The queue then snakes you  into the hangar of Hondo Ohnaka.  Several ships are being worked on by different drioids.  It all seems so real, you can even smell the oil.  There is so much to see, it really does keep you entertained through the entire line.  You’ve heard of hidden Micky’s all over the parks…well I think they should have some hidden Yoda’s in Star Wars Land…jk…maybe.

Once at the top of the queue you see a window where the Millenium Falcon is just landing outside.  A very realistic animatronic figure of Hondo Ohnaka is speaking to you, entreating you to join his mission  an opportunity of a lifetime.

At this poins you walk down a jetway onto the Millenium Falcon.  You are handed a colored card that tells you which job you have been assigned. The jobs are: Pilot, Engineer and Gunnar.  The pilots are responsible for take off, landing, speed and steering.  The Gunnar is of course, in charge of shooting anything that tries to get in the way of the mission.  The Engineer is responsible for repairs and keeping the plane in flying order.  There are two of each position.

It’s time to enter the cockpit.   Each team takes the seat corresponding to their assigned job.

Pilots in the front, Gunnars in the middle and Engineers in the back.  The mission is to intercept a shipment of fuel.  The front panal keep track of your success.  Hondo will definitley let you know if the ship is damaged and you will receive points accordingly.  This pilot and crew came out with a whopping 20%…but it was a lot of fun and means we’ll need to return again and again to get much better.

Children must be at least 38 inches to participate.  They do offer baby swap.

At this time only standby is available but look for the fast pass option to be available soon.

But for now, plan over an hour to enjoy this amazing Star Wars adventure.
